About the School Outreach Program

Talking to students at A. Vare school in south Philadelphia
HNF’s School Outreach Program uses the book Arlene On the Scene and Arlene, the Rebel Queen to launch an engaging discussion about difference, disability and activism with elementary school students in grades 3-6. We schedule school visits as often as possible and offer them free of charge. We also offer our Teacher’s Guide which provides 50+ pages of information and activities to assist educators in utilizing Arlene On the Scene in the classroom, within a standard Language Arts program, with extensions into social studies and counseling programs as well. Connections to Core Curriculum Standards are included.
Free download of the Arlene on the Scene Teacher’s Guide.
Free download of the Extension Activity that accompanies our author presentation.
We donate copies of our books to every school we visit, so contact us today to talk about this great opportunity for your school!
Feedback from our presentations has been overwhelmingly positive:
“I will be using it [Arlene On the Scene] as part of our reading curriculum as well as our character/citizenship curriculum.”
“The presentation was more than we expected in terms of how the presenter tied in literacy standards. The students were very excited to meet a ‘real author’ and discuss how books are published.”
“Could not have been better. The students were totally engaged!”
